Nowadays, due to the rapid development of renewable energy generations and DC loads, DC microgrid is becoming more and more popular. However, in the DC microgrid, it is necessary to convert the AC power generated by wind turbines into DC power through AC/DC conversion technique, which requires multiple conversion steps and introduces additional system power loss and DC microgrid complexity. Therefore, the hybrid AC/DC microgrid has come up to promote the connection of various renewable AC and DC power sources and loads. DC transformer (DCT) plays a significant role in the hybrid AC/DC microgrid. It is generated by adding a number of overdriven switchers to a high-frequency AC transformer. It not only inherits the electrical isolation function of the traditional AC transformer, but also has high power density and high efficiency as the power converter. There are many popular DCTs used in the hybrid AC/DC microgrid, including CLLC-type DCT, asymmetrical CLLC-type DCT and other types of DCTs. The main audience includes senior undergraduate and postgraduate students, educators, scientists, researchers, engineers and innovators. This book is mainly for scholars and researchers from both academia and industry who are working in the fields of power electronics and power system.

The current model for electricity generation and distribution is dominated by centralized power plants which are typically associated with combustion (coal, oil, and natural gas) or nuclear generation units. These power models require distribution from the center to outlying consumers and have many disadvantages concerning the electric utilities, transmission and distribution, and greenhouse gas emissions. This resulted in the modelling and development of cleaner renewable power generation with alternative sources such as photovoltaic (PV), wind, and other sources. Further, due to matured PV technology, constant drop-in installation cost, greenhouse emissions reductions, energy efficiency, reduced transmission and distribution investments, minimization of electric losses, and network support, the development of PV systems is proliferating. In view of this development, this book provides an idea for setting up the PV plant from initial study of the site to plan sizing. Once the first planning is covered, the book focuses on the modeling aspects of power electronics converter and control elements associated with it keeping the operating standards specified for the development of distributed generation systems in check.

Recent technological developments in sensors, edge computing, connectivity, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have accelerated the integration of data analysis based on embedded AI capabilities into resource-constrained, energy-efficient hardware devices for processing information at the network edge. Embedded AI combines embedded Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) based on neural networks (NN) architectures such as convolutional NN (CNN), or spiking neural network (SNN) and algorithms on edge devices and implements edge computing capabilities that enable data processing and analysis without optimised connectivity and integration, allowing users to access data from various sources. Embedded AI efficiently implements edge computing and AI processes on resource-constrained devices to mitigate downtime and service latency, and it successfully merges AI processes as a pivotal component in edge computing and embedded system devices. Embedded AI also enables users to reduce costs, communication, and processing time by assembling data and by supporting user requirements without the need for continuous interaction with physical locations.
