Over the past two decades, the use of fiber lasers in engineering applications has gradually become established as an engineering discipline on its own. The development of fiber lasers is mainly the result of studies from various domains like photonics, optical sensing, fiber optics, nonlinear optics, and telecommunication. Though many excellent books exist on each of these subjects, and several have been written specifically to address lasers and fiber lasers, it is still difficult to find one book where the diverse core of subjects that are central to the study of fiber laser systems are presented in simple and straight forward way. Fiber Lasers: Fundamentals with MATLAB Modelling, is an introduction to the fundamentals of fiber lasers. It provides clear explanations of physical concepts supporting the field of fiber lasers. Fiber lasers’ characteristics are analyzed theoretically through simulations derived from numerical models.

This book presents innovative strategies to implement ultra-low voltage (ULV) and low power active circuits used in low energy RF receivers. The authors demonstrate that the use of single-stage amplifiers with the input negative transconductance compensation is a key strategy to allow the operation at low voltage levels with reduced power dissipation. Also, some design methodologies, based on the CMOS transistor operation point, are analyzed and a powerful design methodology is described for this kind of circuit. Readers will be enabled to implement the techniques described to design communication circuits with low power dissipation, useful in a variety of applications, including IoT/IoE devices. The Internet of Things (IoT) and it derivations are changing the environment we live in by increasing the number of electronics devices connected to the cloud and to each other. The IoT is very important for achieving an improved quality of and also for increasing industry productivity. In spite of that, the massive number of connected devices increased the demand for low-energy circuits able to operate using energy harvesting or small batteries.

Printed circuit boards (PCB) are at the heart of every electronic product manufactured today. Yet, engineers rarely learn to design PCBs from a class or course. They learn it by doing, by reading app notes, watching YouTube videos and sitting by the side of an experienced engineer. This book is the foundation building book for all engineers starting out to design PCBs. It teaches good habits designing a PCB, first for connectivity, and secondly, introduces the four most important principles to reduce noise. A seven-step process is presented: developing a plan of record, creating a Bill of Materials, completing the schematic, completing the layout, completing the assembly, conducting bring up and troubleshooting and documenting the project. Each step is developed in detail.
