The fast-growing number of patients suffering from various ailments has overstretched the carrying capacity of traditional healthcare systems. Often, it becomes challenging to get reliable, accurate, effcient, and adequate medical results using conventional methods of healthcare delivery. In order to address this problem, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) was proposed. IoMT accelerates the remote monitoring of medical services and aids early detection of any medical problem in patients. Recently, Artifcial Intelligence (AI) application to medical data analysis has remarkably facilitated the treating and diagnosing of critical health issues. Integrating Artifcial Intelligence into the Internet of Medical Things has given birth to Artifcial Intelligence of Medical Things (AIoMT). AIoMT has ushered a dramatic change in the medical feld to orchestrate rapid diagnosis, treatment, and management of health issues suffered by a growing number of patients worldwide.

AIoMT facilitates quick responses to patients’ needs more effciently and effectively. However, there are growing concerns that AIoMT is highly vulnerable to several cyber and malicious attacks due to a lack of robust security and privacy control. In addition, the interconnection of billions of medical devices in AIoMT poses enormous security vulnerabilities leading to unlawful exploitation of patients’ medical records. Consequently, malicious intruders could reconfgure medical devices, and patients’ lives could be in critical danger. Thus, this could severely impact the rapid deployment, trust, and usage of AIoMT systems.

Additionally, AIoMT requires extensive training and awareness to aid successful implementation. In order to enhance the immunity of AIoMT against cyberattacks, proper security measures must be put in place. The required training skills must be provided to all parties involved in the healthcare ecosystem, and the need for a book that addresses these concerns cannot be overemphasized.

This handbook discusses critical AIoMT security and privacy issues. First, the book critically examines the existing security designs and proffers solutions to revamp the traditional security architecture. Also, the book explores the application of cryptographic and noncryptographic solutions to addressing critical security and privacy concerns in AIoMT devices and systems. These solutions are analyzed and compared in terms of the required resources, computational complexity, and system performance. Next, the book discusses emerging lightweight, provably secure algorithms and protocols to reduce computational overheads and communication costs. Finally, the need to design effcient intrusion detection algorithms and attack prevention techniques to tackle these security concerns are discussed extensively.
