AI-Powered IoT in the Energy Industry: Digital Technology and Sustainable Energy Systems looks at opportunities to employ cutting-edge applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine Learning (ML) in designing and modeling energy and renewable energy systems. The book's main objectives are to demonstrate how big data can help with energy efficiency and demand reduction, increase the usage of renewable energy sources, and assist in transitioning from a centralized system to a distributed, efficient, and embedded energy system. Contributions cover the fundamentals of the renewable energy sector, including solar, wind, biomass, and hydrogen, as well as building services and power generation systems. Chapters also examine renewable energy property prediction methods and discuss AI and IoT prediction models for biomass thermal properties.

The book is organized as follows:

In Chap. 1, AI approaches in the research and development of the RE sources like wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, hydro energy, ocean energy, bioenergy, hydrogen energy, and hybrid energy have been comprehensively analyzed. This chapter analyzes and discusses challenges estimating the value creation of AI methods in RE.

In Chap. 2, artificial intelligence methods have been applied in a wide scope of fields for demonstrating, expectation, and anticipating of sun based radiation or sun powered asset gauges, recreation, displaying, enhancement and seizing of sun oriented energy frameworks. Solar energy has significantly profited from the force of AI, AI-prescient models, and information science over the previous years. The authors figure out how to bring down their expenses, improve expectations, and increase their portfolios’ pace of return.

Chapter 3 discusses smart grids that enable two-way data-driven flow of electricity, allowing systematic communication along the distribution line. Smart grids utilize various power sources, automate the process of energy distribution and fault identification, and facilitate better power usage, among other things. Smart grids utilize AI and IoT to optimize the energy consumption and monitor live usage statistics.

Chapter 4 introduces electro mobility as a rapidly growing and evolving application domain of the Internet of Things, with a huge market potential in various areas. A comparison of different mobility scenarios was conducted, and the chapter examines how electric vehicles interact with local energy systems in Stuttgart. A study was also conducted to determine if the existing infrastructure was adequate for future demand, focusing on substation transformer reserves.

Chapter 5 discusses the role IoT towards smart grids and leveraging renewable energy. This chapter mainly discusses IoT technology and its diverse applications, that is, IoT architecture with its applications in different areas like medicine, agriculture, and smart city. The main contribution of this chapter is that the role of IoT in leveraging renewable energy is discussed here.

Chapter 6 explores the contribution of IoT in green energy construction. Internet of Things today benefits green energy, enabling companies in this sector to make the most of their data, and improve efficiency and safety.

Chapter 7 explores the necessity for sustainable infrastructure and the key factors affecting sustainability. It addresses the fundamental science of sustainability and various obstacles inherent in the ICT transformation, and provides recommendations for diplomats, innovators, researchers, scientists, project developers, sponsors, traders, allied stakeholders, and faculties to achieve the sustainable infrastructure based on the review of similar works.

Chapter 8 illustrates biomass renewable energy. The integration of AI and IoT is a boon to the sector to provide better results in the form of reliability and efficiency. It helps in managing the production of energy and energy consumption in the changing climate and environment. AI in the renewable energy sector gives solutions for taking decisions, identifying patterns, predictive analysis, and reducing the storage cost. The importance and challenges of AI and IoT in renewable energy sector are discussed.

Chapter 9 introduces the concept of smart energy, smart grid, and smart energy systems in a brief manner. Smart energy portfolio and smart energy management are introduced in the first section. How AI and IoT can be used to improve the different energy sources like wind power, solar power, and geothermal power is also discussed.

Chapter 10 presents the role of IoT in empowering the energy sector. Energy utilization is happening at an extremely quick rate, debilitating the assets in delivering it at a similar rate, and the entirety of this requires a transformation to save energy. Renewable energy subsectors are introduced and integrated with Internet of Things. IoT benefits and international market scenario are presented very well.

Chapter 11 focuses on the comparison of traditional and modern technology used for supply and consumption of electricity in rural areas, issues in implementation of modern technologies, and research and development in modernization of electric power systems.

Chapter 12 begins with discussion on renewable energy, its sources, and challenges and explores how artificial intelligence can solve these challenges.

Chapter 13 discusses geothermal energy along with technologies like Machine Learning and Internet of Things. The various environmental constraints prevailing in GT fields like high pressure, high temperature, and the existence of corrosive fluids make the measurements and predictions erroneous.

In Chap. 14, IoT (Internet of Things) and smart technologies are discussed to improve the quality of life with risk and benefits. The need and scope of smart technology in a variety of areas are presented. A platform such as this can be viewed as an impressive test bench for evaluations of innovative technologies and services.
