Information Dynamics: In Classical and Quantum SystemsНазвание: Information Dynamics: In Classical and Quantum Systems
Автор: Thomas Dittrich
Издательство: Springer
Год: 2022
Страниц: 567
Язык: английский
Формат: pdf (true)
Размер: 13.6 MB

This wide-ranging book introduces information as a key concept not only in physics, from quantum mechanics to thermodynamics, but also in the neighboring sciences and in the humanities. The central part analyzes dynamical processes as manifestations of information flows between microscopic and macroscopic scales and between systems and their environment. Quantum mechanics is interpreted as a reconstruction of mechanics based on fundamental limitations of information processing on the smallest scales. These become particularly manifest in quantum chaos and in quantum computing. Covering subjects such as causality, prediction, undecidability, chaos, and quantum randomness, the book also provides an information-theoretical view of predictability.

Design and Analysis of Pragmatic TrialsНазвание: Design and Analysis of Pragmatic Trials
Автор: Song Zhang, Chul Ahn, Hong Zhu
Издательство: CRC Press
Серия: Biostatistics Series
Год: 2023
Страниц: 215
Язык: английский
Формат: pdf (true)
Размер: 10.1 MB

This book begins with an introduction of pragmatic cluster randomized trials (PCTs) and reviews various pragmatic issues that need to be addressed by statisticians at the design stage. It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each type of PCT, and provides sample size formulas, sensitivity analyses, and examples for sample size calculation. The generalized estimating equation (GEE) method will be employed to derive sample size formulas for various types of outcomes from the exponential family, including continuous, binary, and count variables. Experimental designs that have been frequently employed in PCTs will be discussed, including cluster randomized designs, matched-pair cluster randomized design, stratified cluster randomized design, stepped-wedge cluster randomized design, longitudinal cluster randomized design, and crossover cluster randomized design. It demonstrates that the GEE approach is flexible to accommodate pragmatic issues such as hierarchical correlation structures, different missing data patterns, randomly varying cluster sizes, etc. It has been reported that the GEE approach leads to under-estimated variance with limited numbers of clusters. Can be used as a textbook for graduate students majoring in statistics and biostatistics.

Nanophotonics and Machine Learning: Concepts, Fundamentals, and ApplicationsНазвание: Nanophotonics and Machine Learning: Concepts, Fundamentals, and Applications
Автор: Kan Yao, Yuebing Zheng
Издательство: Springer
Серия: Springer Series in Optical Sciences
Год: 2023
Страниц: 188
Язык: английский
Формат: pdf (true)
Размер: 14.3 MB

This book, the first of its kind, bridges the gap between the increasingly interlinked fields of nanophotonics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). While Artificial Intelligence techniques, Machine Learning in particular, have revolutionized many different areas of scientific research, nanophotonics holds a special position as it simultaneously benefits from AI-assisted device design whilst providing novel computing platforms for AI. This book is aimed at both researchers in nanophotonics who want to utilize AI techniques and researchers in the computing community in search of new photonics-based hardware. The book guides the reader through the general concepts and specific topics of relevance from both nanophotonics and AI, including optical antennas, metamaterials, metasurfaces, and other photonic devices on the one hand, and different Machine Learning paradigms and Deep Learning algorithms on the other. It goes on to comprehensively survey inverse techniques for device design, AI-enabled applications in nanophotonics, and nanophotonic platforms for AI. This book will be essential reading for graduate students, academic researchers, and industry professionals from either side of this fast-developing, interdisciplinary field.

The research on wave-type problems is a fascinating and emerging field in mathematical research with many challenging applications in sciences and engineering. Profound investigations on waves require a strong interaction of several mathematical disciplines including functional analysis, partial differential equations, mathematical modeling, mathematical physics, numerical analysis, and scientific computing. The goal of this book is to present a comprehensive introduction to the research on wave phenomena. Starting with basic models for acoustic, elastic, and electro-magnetic waves, topics such as the existence of solutions for linear and some nonlinear material laws, efficient discretizations and solution methods in space and time, and the application to inverse parameter identification problems are covered. The aim of this book is to intertwine analysis and numerical mathematics for wave-type problems promoting thus cooperative research projects in this field.

Размер: 50.6 MB

This book covers the introduction, theory, development and applications of type-2 fuzzy logic systems, which represent the current state-of-the-art in various domains such as control applications, power plants, health care, image processing, mathematical applications etc. The book is also rich in discussing different applications in order to give the researchers a flavor of how type-2 fuzzy logic is designed for different types of problems. Type-2 fuzzy logic systems are now used extensively in engineering applications for many purposes. In simple language, this book covers the practical use of type-2 fuzzy logic and its optimization through different training methods. Furthermore, this book maintains the relationship between mathematics and practical implementations in the real world. This book chapter also contains the proper comparisons with available literature work. It shows that the presented enhanced techniques have better results. This book would serve as a handy reference guide for a variety of readers, primarily targeting research scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate researchers and practicing engineers working in Type-2 fuzzy logic systems and their applications.

A First Introduction to Quantum Physics, 2nd editionНазвание: A First Introduction to Quantum Physics, 2nd edition
Автор: Pieter Kok
Издательство: Springer
Серия: Undergraduate Lecture Notes in Physics
Год: 2023
Страниц: 304
Язык: английский
Формат: pdf (true), epub
Размер: 25,6 MB

In this undergraduate textbook, now in its 2nd edition, the author develops the quantum theory from first principles based on very simple experiments: a photon traveling through beam splitters to detectors, an electron moving through magnetic fields, and an atom emitting radiation. From the physical description of these experiments follows a natural mathematical description in terms of matrices and complex numbers. The first part of the book examines how experimental facts force us to let go of some deeply held preconceptions and develops this idea into a description of states, probabilities, observables, and time evolution. The quantum mechanical principles are illustrated using applications such as gravitational wave detection, magnetic resonance imaging, atomic clocks, scanning tunneling microscopy, and many more. The first part concludes with an overview of the complete quantum theory.
