Официально Германия, скованная Версальским соглашением, не принимала никакого участия во всех "крейсерских гонках", хотя именно она нанесла но новому классу может быть, самый решительный удар. "Карманные линкоры", вошедшие в строй одновременно с первыми из "вашингтонских" крейсеров, настолько превосходили их в бою, что послужили одной из причин появления более сбалансированных проектов.
