Разведывательный самолет целеуказания Туполев Ту-16РМ. С поступлением на вооружение ракетного комплекса Ту-16К-16 в 1962 году стало очевидным, что самолёт Ту-1бР не способен обеспечивать работу комплекса уже потому, что дальность обнаружения надводных целей с помощью его РЛС оказалась меньше дальности пуска ракет КСР-2, достигавшей 180-200 км. В связи с этим возникла необходимость модернизировать Ту-16Р.
Модернизированный в 1965 году самолёт Ту-16Р получил обозначение Ту-16РМ-2. Он имел ряд отличий от базового самолёта. Дальность и продолжительность полёта разведывательного самолёта имеет немаловажное значение, а поскольку более экономичный двигатель так и не появился, пошли по испытанному пути - увеличили объем топлива. Между шпангоутами № 35 и № 42 поместили контейнер с дополнительным мягким топливным баком на 7000 л, доведя тем самым емкость топливной системы самолёта до 51000л. Кроме того, незначительно обновили компоновку и комплектацию радио- и пилотажно-навигационного оборудования: установили доплеровский измеритель путевой скорости и угла сноса ДИСС-1, бортовой комплекс радионавигационной системы ближней навигации РСБН-2С, заменили радиовысотомеры и др.
