Туполев Ту-16Г. Вспомогательный самолет. До принятия в эксплуатацию Ту-104 несколько серийных бомбардировщиков Ту-16 было передано "Аэрофлоту", где они использовались как скоростные почтовые самолеты. Машина получила обозначение Ту-16Г, иногда самолет фигурировал как Ту-104Г. Самолеты позволили персоналу "Аэрофлота" до поступления Ту-104 познакомиться, хотя и в ограниченном объеме, с новой реактивной техникой. Аналогичным образом в ГВФ с 1954 года под обозначением Ил-20 использовались фронтовые бомбардировщики Ил-28. Впрочем, Ту-16 пришлось еще раз перевозить несвойственные ему гражданские грузы. В 1957 году, когда срочно нужно было собрать первых секретарей обкомов и райкомов КПСС на внеочередной пленум компартии в поддержку позиции Н.С. Хрущева против "антипартийной группы", Г.К. Жуков обеспечил переброску нужных партийных функционеров из провинции на боевых Ту-16. Тем самым Н.С. Хрущев получил возможность быстро собрать пленум КПСС и получить необходимый перевес голосов. Таким образом, Ту-16 сыграл весьма важную роль в развернувшейся политической борьбе за власть в руководстве СССР во второй половине 1950-х.
