Яковлев АВФ-10. Учебный планер. В 1921 году 15-летний школьник Александр Яковлев прочел книгу по истории техники. В одной из глав говорилось о возникновении авиации, имелось описание модели планера и была приложена ее схема. И вот, как вспоминает А.С. Яковлев в своей книге «Рассказы авиаконструктора», «...квартира превращена в мастерскую. Пахнет клеем, пол завален стружками и обрезками бумаги. Никаких игр, прогулок, развлечений. Больше месяца строил я модель планера из тонких сосновых планок, обтянутых бумагой и скрепленных гвоздями и клеем. Модель имела два метра в размахе, и дома, разумеется, испытать ее было невозможно. Пришлось разобрать модель и перенести в школу. В большом зале, при торжественной тишине, в присутствии множества любопытных я запустил свой первый летательный аппарат, и он пролетел метров пятнадцать. Радости не было конца. Волнение охватило всех. Модель парила, летала, я ощутил ее движение, жизнь! И здесь родилась моя страсть к авиации». В августе 1923 года А. Яковлев организовал первую в Москве школьную ячейку Общества друзей воздушного флота - ОДВФ. Энтузиасты авиации школы №50, а их набралось около 60 человек, строили модели, а потом приступили к изготовлению планера. К тому времени организатор кружка окончил школу, построил по проекту и под руководством Н.Д. Анощенко планер «Макака» и осенью 1923 года помогал испытывать его на первых Всесоюзных планерных испытаниях в Коктебеле. Там и пришло окончательное решение - посвятить свою жизнь авиации

South African Air Force Base Waterkloof. Officially opened on 1 August 1938 as Waterkloof Air Station, this is the SAAF's busiest airbase. It is situated just south of Pretoria and a few minutes flying time from AFB Swartkop. The base is also responsible for the management of the Ditholo Training Area (previosuly known as the Air Defence Artillery Defence Unit) at Hammanskraal. The base was established in 1938, initially as a practiced forced landing field, secondary to Swartkop. During those years, the airfield measured 1775 x 1550 yards of grass landing strip, which was typical and adequate for aircraft types of the 1930's and 1940's.
