If you just want some guidance on reading Chaucer and other ME authors, this book is probably not the place to start. But if you want more basic information on the development of the language, focused on ME, from a linguistics approach, this is a very good resource. I had no formal training in linguistics, but enjoyed acquiring some of the basic concepts through this book

In my opinion, the material in this book makes for very good reading. Professor BeDuhn's findings and conclusions reached are stated in an very understandable manner. You may not agree with his choice of what Bible version renders the best translation of the New Testatment

The preparation of a modern lexicon dedicated to the vocabulary of the LXX is most welcome. Yes, one can find all the words in the unabridged Liddell & Scott A Greek-English Lexicon, Ninth Edition with a Revised Supplement, but the latter volume is not very portable, and it has far more information than a reader of the LXX will need.A more important difference, though, is that the present volume addresses many matters of lexical meaning that are peculiar to the LXX

This work offers a detailed analysis of Puritan iconoclasm in England during the 1640s, looking at the reasons for the resurgence of image-breaking a hundred years after the break with Rome, and the extent of the phenomenon. Initially a reaction to the emphasis on ceremony and the 'beauty of holiness' under Archbishop Laud, the attack on 'innovations', such as communion rails, images and stained glass windows, developed into a major campaign driven forward by the Long Parliament as part of its religious reformation. Increasingly radical legislation targeted not just 'new popery', but pre-Reformation survivals and a wide range of objects (including some which had been acceptable to the Elizabethan and Jacobean Church)
