This book is a history of endeavors to achieve a Union between the Western and Eastern Churches in the Ruthenian lands of the Jagiellonian Commonwealth. By “Ruthenian lands" the author means those territories inhabited by Eastern Slavs which were under the suzerainty of the Polish-Lithuanian state. “Ruthenians” are thus the ancestors of the present-day Belorussians and Ukrainians.
