Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being rapidly introduced into the workplace, creating debate around what AI means for our work and organizations. This book gives grounded counterweight to provocative newspaper headlines by using in-depth case studies of eight organizations’ experiences of implementing and using AI, providing readers with a solid understanding of what is actually happening in practice. Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to a field in computer science that focuses on developing systems that can accomplish tasks that normally require human intelligence. AI uses, among other things, machine learning (self-learning) algorithms, which can learn based on large amounts of data. As a result, an AI system can independently come up with new suggestions, decisions or predictions. This book is about managing AI systems in practice. As far as we are concerned, the word ‘practice’ should be emphasized, because although there are many (popular) scientific publications about the potential influence of AI systems on work and organizations, little of this work is based on real cases that can provide examples from practice.
