Название: Integrated Electronic Circuits Автор: Jad G. Atallah, Mohammed Ismail Издательство: Springer Год: 2024 Страниц: 362 Язык: английский Формат: pdf (true), epub Размер: 34.9 MB
This textbook takes a unique approach to fundamental courses in electronic circuits, providing the students with early exposure to Integrated Circuit (IC) technology and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools using a Process Design Kit (PDK). This aims at preparing the students to participate in the advancements taking place in the field today and in the foreseeable future.
The book follows a novel, hands-on approach to electronics education, combining a unique pedagogy that balances theory with practice. The starting point consists of circuit simulation results rather than device physics. Therefore, hand calculations and simulations are readily used, and the loop between the two is closed. The information is presented visually not only for the circuits, but also for the signals involved, all of which being simulation results. The book is aimed to be easily read and understood by the students, which gives the instructors ample time to concentrate on the important points.
The book discusses technology and its applications and limitations along with the IC design flow. It goes in depth into various types of circuits including analog, digital, and mixed-signal, where the students are encouraged to discover the connections between the different applications. This is because future electronic circuit designers should be able to understand system and technology aspects, and be able to switch easily between applications. This results in the students being better-prepared for future cross-disciplinary innovations.
The pre-requisites needed for the students to follow this book consist of knowledge and skills in basic electrical circuits, which are usually covered in basic circuits courses. These include basic components including resistors, capacitors, inductors, and sources in addition to mesh analysis (KVL), nodal analysis (KCL), Thevenin and Norton models, input and output impedances, and frequency response including transfer functions and bode plots. Also, basic knowledge in logic design is needed, which is also covered in a separate course.
Chapter 1 starts with sample applications of electronic circuits. It then presents fundamental aspects of circuits such as information-related signals in the voltage and current domains. This is followed by best practices to read and analyze electronic circuits in addition to unit conversions and logarithmic scales. Finally, feedback basics are presented along with Miller’s theorem. Chapter 2 presents three of the most basic and important applications of electronic circuits: signal amplification, signal filtering, and logic computation. This chapter starts by looking into the two main variations of amplifiers, regular and operational. This is followed by continuous-time filtering. Finally, logic gates for computation are briefly discussed along with their non-idealities. Chapter 3 presents several ways to model a diode. The method to devise models and how to choose between them given a certain context applies not only to diodes, but to all electric and electronic circuits. As a result, these are important skills to acquire and hone in the long run. This chapter also presents some important applications of diodes such as AC-to-DC conversion, lighting, and photodetection. Chapter 4 discusses the general behavior of a transistor. This is followed by the behavior of technology-specific transistors, namely FETs and BJTs, including their characterization. Afterward, basic circuit applications are presented. ... Chapter 11 focuses on output stages designed to drive loads with small input impedances. Chapter 12 introduces the concept of mixed-signal circuits and some of their applications. It looks into comparators, switched-capacitor circuits, sample-and-hold circuits, digital-to-analog converters, analog-to-digital converters, as well as oscillators and phase-locked loops.
