The question of the design and routing of supra-regional electrical supply lines in the high- and extra-high-voltage range has been at the center of public debate for decades. Increasing environmental awareness among the population and the obligation of grid operators to adapt the grids to the growing requirements by expanding them have led to sometimes considerable conflicts in many cases. Due to the accelerated shift in the focus of generation in the course of the energy transition, away from traditional power plants near the main load points and towards renewable electricity generation from wind and solar power, the electricity generated often has to be transported to the main load points over many hundreds of kilometers via high-performance power lines. Irrespective of this, the existing electricity grid must be strengthened and expanded at all voltage levels, for example, due to the increasing demand caused by electromobility and heat pumps.

The book is aimed at learners and students as well as experienced professionals who want to further their education and prepare themselves for new tasks. It assumes that the reader has a basic knowledge of electrical engineering in the technical section, picks them up from there, and leads them to the current specialist topics and questions in an understandable way.
