This book highlights the intersection of sensing and communication technologies to address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will examine how integrated systems can contribute to achieving SDGs by enhancing monitoring, data collection, and communication in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, environmental monitoring, and disaster management. Topics include sensor networks, IoT, data fusion techniques, wireless communication protocols, and energy-efficient design principles. Readers will be presented with case studies, analyze real-world applications, and develop solutions aimed at advancing sustainable development through the synergy of sensing and communication technologies.

Radar and radio frequency (RF) telecommunication systems are similar yet dissimilar in many aspects and applications. Since the early 1960s, there have been initiatives to merge the functionality of radio sensing and radio telecommunications using shared resources. However, the research in this area picked up speed with 3GPP standards adopting shared RF sensing and communication in standards as an important pillar for 6G and beyond. The domain, currently known as integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) or also as joint sensing and communications (JSAC), is witnessing aggressive research and development initiatives throughout the world with both academia and industry keen on adopting the joint functionality. This monograph endeavours to put together some of the emerging directions in ISAC and some interesting applications. We expect the book to be of use to both industry engineers as well academic researchers.
